AWO and UN Women Convene Regional Working Group to Develop Care Economy Roadmap for the Arab Region

 In collaboration with UN Women, the Arab Women Organization (AWO) held the inaugural meeting of the Regional Working Group on Thursday, April 9, 2026, to develop a comprehensive Roadmap for the Care Economy in the Arab region.

 
The virtual session, conducted via Zoom, was dedicated to introducing the working group members, presenting the general methodology and roadmap, and discussing the anticipated roles and strategic next steps.
 
The meeting was opened by Professor Dr. Fadia Kiwan, Director-General of the AWO, alongside Ms. Sahar Aloul, the expert tasked with developing the Regional Action Plan for the UN Women Regional Office.
 
The regional working group includes representatives from 12 Arab nations: Jordan, Tunisia, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, and Yemen. This collaborative effort aims to structure the care economy—a sector vital for women’s economic empowerment and sustainable development across the region.
