Call for Expression of Interest (EOI) to Develop a Mobile Application to Empower Rural Women in the Arab Region

 Background

In April 2020, Arab Women Organization (AWO) and Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have collaborated in launching the “Competition for: Innovations to Empower Rural Women in the Arab Region through a Mobile Application”, with an aim of acknowledging and supporting mobile-based applications from ICT developers in the Arab region that respond to the needs of rural women and address the challenges faced by rural women particularly farmers and agricultural workers.

The competitors were asked to provide a prototype, based on interactive Videos and audios.

In September 2020, AWO has officially announced the results of the competition.

 

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

This call is opened to qualified ICT companies/institutions and small enterprises or startups, fulfilling the pre-selection criteria defined below:

  • Only those with a strong, proven track record of performance and quality in this field are encouraged to participate. (A full portfolio of the previously developed applications must be presented)
  • Should sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement for copyrights and confidentiality
  • The enterprise headquarter must be in an Arab county.
  • The enterprises led by women or has a majority of women software developers, will be given a priority.
  • The selected suppliers will get name recognition, both on the Application and in the various App. stores.
  • FAO and AWO will be acknowledged as the copyrights owners for the App.

  

Requirements

It will be required to develop 4 mobile applications. And the developed application shall have the following criteria:

  • The application interface language should be in Arabic, preferably to be easily adapted into local and foreign languages.
  • It shall be a hybrid application/cross-platform application to be released for both ios and Android, using the Native language
  • It shall be editable and adjustable.
  • It shall have high-Speed downloading and browsing options, and ensuring security and compatibility.
  • Linking the application data to the official website of the organization.
  • The ability to send alerts and notifications to customers through the Application.
  • Reports on the pattern of users (their number, from which countries, and with which screens were opened the most and at what times and types of devices)
  • Sending the full source code without encryption.
  • Free technical support and maintenance for 1 year after delivering the Application.

Interested companies are invited to submit an EOI to info@arabwomenorg.net with the following information:

  1. Subject: Developing Mobile Application
  2. Name and contact details of the service provider
  3. A description of the service provider.
  4. A detailed description of previous and current experience in delivering a similar service. Kindly include a detailed track-record.
  5. An estimate time/cost per App.
  6. Attachment of the Supplier legal registration documents.
  7. Deadline: 15th November, 2020.
